The third quarter
is going to be a lot of fun in art as both 3rd and 4th grade create their self
portraits. At the elementary level we like to think of it as the
"cartoon" version of themselves as they begin learning the shapes,
features, placement, and uniqueness of their faces. These projects always turn
out so great as the students explore their creativity through their own
identity. Next, all of the
students will be learning about form as they create 3-D animals with air dry
clay. The students love working with clay. This year, all of the
elementary students will be putting together a zoo for the art show. The 3rd
grade students will be creating clay penguins and the 4th grade classes will
each be creating a unique animal to add to our zoo.
We are constantly
discussing how art is used in the "real world" so students will be
writing and illustrating their own book towards the end of February as we
participate in Read Across America. The students will be writing
during their library time and illustrating during their art time. We are
excited to see how this collaboration will help them explore their
creativity.
As we wrap up the
3rd quarter students will be discussing our last element of art, SPACE.
4th grade will be creating projects to show we can create the "art
space" using the inspiration of "science space"! 3rd grade will
be creating positive and negative space using a cut paper collage and
complementary colors.
