Curriculum Highlights

ELA: This quarter we will be comparing and contrasting two Hindenburg stories from our Storyworks magazines.  After these stories we will begin our novel study of James and the Giant Peach. These stories will include a variety of reading standards such as:

-reading and understanding fourth grade text

-main idea and summarizing

-comparing and contrasting

 

Math: We will start by learning about place value which includes reading, writing, comparing and rounding numbers. Another topic we will be covering is addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers. We will also be starting multiplication of larger numbers.

 

Social Studies: We will begin Social Studies by learning map skills, timelines, primary/secondary sources and fact/opinion. These skills will be the back bone for many things that we do ALL YEAR. Utilizing these skills, we will then start learning about the earliest inhabitants of Ohio.

 

Science: We will begin with our "Getting Ready for Science" unit which includes the scientific method and learning about science tools. After this, we will start our Earth Science unit by learning about different landforms.
