Teaching & Learning

Welcome Back-to-School 2022-2023

The Bloom-Carroll Local School District has a tradition of excellence both inside and outside the classroom.  Our staff is committed to putting the needs of our students first and working diligently to provide each student with a quality educational experience that will lead them towards success.

Each spring, school districts across Ohio assess students in selected grade levels and/or subject areas to gauge their performance in areas determined to be critical to success in learning.  Recent results from the 2021-2022 state testing data once again reports our students have exceeded the state average in all 20 tested areas (See chart below).  Preliminary data also indicates our students and staff met the individual gap-closing goals for all subgroups in the areas of both reading and mathematics.  At the local level, BLSCD earned the highest percentages in six of the tested areas, resulting in the most of any school district in Fairfield County.

As we turn our focus to the 2022-2023 school year, we will be continuing our efforts to improve and enhance our curriculum and instruction at all levels. We have recently redesigned all K-12 curriculum maps across the district to reflect our curriculum’s alignment to Ohio’s Learning Standards and will be making these documents available to our families this fall on our website.

We are excited to be working on several new initiatives for this upcoming school year.  These include:

  • Adding two new courses at the high school: Sports Officiating (elective) and World Honors History.

  • Implementing a new professional development course known as LETRS (Language Essentials for Teacher of Reading and Spelling) for all K-3 teachers and grades 4-12 interventions specialists.  This training meets ODE’s new requirements around HB583 to provide dyslexia supports to students.

  • Conducting an annual review of our K-5 ELA curriculum and K-12 Social Studies curriculum

  • Offering pre-apprentice opportunities to students in collaboration with our local career centers and Fairfield County Workforce Development.

  • Collaborating with representatives from INTEL, as well as higher-ed institutions and neighboring school districts, to prepare additional pathways for careers in technology, including new CCP opportunities, and STEM curriculum designed to prepare students for future employment with industries such as INTEL.

As you can see, we have a lot of exciting opportunities planned for this upcoming school year and we are looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence at BC!

Have a great school year!
