Hometown Harvest Day Honors the Late David Brandt
~ written by FFA member Sadie Moore

A sunny fall afternoon was the perfect backdrop for Bloom-Carroll FFA's first annual Hometown Harvest Day in loving memory of David Brandt. David was a well known farmer in our community who always took the opportunity to teach about agriculture and conservation practices. Bloom-Carroll FFA members planned an event for community members and families to learn about what Dave was so passionate about soil health.

Families traveled through 10 different stations learning about soil texture, no-till practices, the benefits of cover crops along with farm finances, livestock feeds, apple harvesting, bee keeping, hay and grain harvesting. Many Fairfield County agriculture products were enjoyed. Attendees also took a narrated hay ride around the school's land lab which ended at the FFA's pumpkin patch where free pumpkins were available. By the efforts of FFA members and many community supporters, over 400 people learned more about agriculture through the Hometown Harvest Day.
We invite you to view a highlight video of the day, created by FFA member Sadie Moore.
