Reopening Schools Update - 8/21/2020

After nearly six months, we are set to welcome our students back to school. An extensive amount of planning has taken place to provide the best opportunity for our students to experience in-person instruction as safely as possible. The uncertainty and challenges of the past several months will remain with us as we start the new school year.

As we enter the final weekend of summer break, I want to address a few items and reminders:

  • We will continue our path forward with reopening schools on the Yellow Status Level – our Alternating Day Schedule - outlined in the BCLSD Plan of Action to Reset and Restart Education.
  • Monday, August 24th - Group 1 (Last name A-K) – First Day of School Grades 1-12.
  • Tuesday, August 25th – Group 2 (Last name L-Z) – First Day of School Grades 1-12.
  • Per ODH orders, masks are required in our schools, on school buses, and outdoors on school property when students and staff are unable to maintain 6’ of distance. Please provide multiple masks for your child.
The Ohio Department of Health’s COVID-19 County Risk Level Advisory System is updated each Thursday. Over the last few weeks, Fairfield County COVID-19 cases continue a downward trend. On Thursday, August 20th Fairfield County dropped from Level 3 to Level 2.

Changing our instructional status level at this time, or on a weekly basis, contingent upon our county’s weekly risk level would be premature and further disruptive.

We will monitor how the start of this school year progresses in regards to virus cases. If cases continue a downward trend we will determine - in consultation with health officials - when the timing is right to switch to our Green Status Level (normal schedule five days per week).

Enjoy the final weekend of summer break and we look forward to seeing our students next week!

Thank you,
Shawn Haughn
