March Senior Newsletter

Hello Seniors,

It is March, and there are only about two and a half months of school left before you graduate. For some students, at this time of the year, “senioritis” kicks in. Senioritis, in a nutshell, is when seniors begin showing a decline in their successful habits. It is not uncommon for some level of senioritis to afflict seniors. However, now, maybe more than ever, it will be important for you to revisit what you are looking to accomplish long term. In life, choices affect outcome, aka the future, so remember that each decision you choose will have some effect on YOUR future. Remember what you are looking to accomplish long term, that you have the ability to positively transform your future and that your decisions make the difference.

College & Scholarship Recognition

Congratulations to the following students! Your hard work has paid off for the next step of your education! Colleges and/or military branches students were accepted into are listed first, with details of the scholarship at that college listed directly thereafter, where applicable.

Molly Barber - Ohio University Lancaster with the Full-Tuition Kilburger scholarship

Garret Noland - South Central Power Co.’s Career-Technical Scholarship worth $1,000

Ryan Deeds - United States Marine Corps

Reminder - If you would like to be recognized, whenever you receive an acceptance letter/offer from a college (from one of your top two colleges that you plan on attending), from an employer, or from the military, please forward the acceptance email to Mr. Kelley ([email protected]) or hand deliver a copy of the physical acceptance letter/offer to the guidance office.

Scholarship

Almost all of the local, Bloom-Carroll only scholarships have opened up to receive applications. BC only scholarships are located at the bottom of the BCHS Scholarships Resource and are highlighted in purple and gold. All applications for BC scholarships are available online through the BCHS Scholarship Resource. Some of the scholarships are to be printed, completed, and then turned into the guidance office, some are to be snail-mailed, and other applications are entirely online - links to everything are within the BCHS Scholarship Resource

Senior Passport/Resume

The below information was sent in an email by Senior Advisors Mrs. Eggleston and Mr. McNamara.

As a graduation requirement, you must complete a “Senior Passport” in order to receive your diploma.  This year, the Senior Passport will consist of a single item: a resume.  You must submit your resume on this Google Form by April 30.  Do NOT email it to us; use the form.

Do you already have a resume?  Great, then just upload it and you’re all set.

Don’t have a resume? You can use the template that is found on the BCHS website (along with all of this information)...

Do you attend the Career Center? You do NOT need to submit a resume as you will complete alternative requirements at the Career Center.

If you have questions, you can ask Mrs. Eggleston or Mr. McNamara.

Career Expo

There will be a Career Expo on March 20th, from 9:30 am to noon, at the Fairfield County Workforce Center in Carroll. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are going directly into the workforce/employment after graduating. There will be many local businesses that are looking to discuss career opportunities with interested students. If the Career Expo sounds interesting, and you would like to attend, you will need to email Mrs. Kackley by Friday, March 14th.  Additionally, if you plan to attend, it is a best practice to bring your resume and wear interview attire.

Ohio Means Jobs

If you are looking at going directly into the workforce after graduation, do not forget about the Ohio Means Jobs website. You can search jobs by location, career field, keywords, education level, etc. Additional resources can also be found on the OMJ website: such as, career preparation, lifestyle calculator, budget calculator, and more!.

AP Courses: Scores & College Credit

Colleges may award college credit to you for AP courses. Credit is given based on your AP exam score. An important distinction is that each college sets their own standards; One college may grant college credit with an AP exam score of 3 where another college may require an AP exam score of 4.

How do you know what AP score is needed to earn college credit? You can contact the college directly as well as check the College Board’s Credit Policy Search by clicking here.

Colleges will NOT know about your AP exam score(s) unless you send your AP exam score(s) to them. Instructions on how to send AP scores can be found by clicking here.

BigFuture

If you are looking to make sense of all the financial aspects of college, BigFuture can help. One of the resource sections in BigFuture is titled “Pay for College.” Within the “Pay for College” section, there are financial resources such as “How Much Will College Cost” and “Get Help Paying For College.” Additionally, while many of you know you are going to college, you may not know exactly what you are majoring in. Generally speaking, the sooner you can identify a major, the better. Inside of BigFuture there is a section titled “Explore Careers” that can help you explore careers and majors.
