Curriculum Highlights

Students at BCIS will have a very busy third quarter in music. Forty students will have the opportunity to perform with the Opera Columbus cast during a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. This will take place at Wagnall’s Memorial on Mar. 22. All of the fourth grade students will be working on singing and playing music on their recorders to perform with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in April. We have lots of work to do to get ready for these programs.

Third grade students will continue work on form in music and concentrate on learning the instruments of the orchestra and grouping them into families. We will also work on reading and writing rhythm patterns. Those students who are selected to participate in the Opera Columbus performance will receive packets of music and a CD for practicing at home. If this is something that your child is interested in doing, please have them be sure to sign up to be considered for the chorus.

Fourth grade students should all have their recorders and be working on the notes BA&G during winter break. They should be able to play Hot Cross Buns when they return. All will receive a Link Up booklet when they return from break. This will include all of the materials that they will need to know for our concert with the CSO.  Students will also be able to earn reward belts for learning the nine Recorder Karate required pieces. After students have mastered one of the required pieces, they will play it for me. If it is played with correct rhythm and notes, they will receive their reward belt. I can’t wait to see how many black belt students we have this year. The top 50 students will present a concert for the third grade students in the spring. Please be sure that your child brings their recorder, folder, & pencil for music each week. Thanks for your help!
