BC Athletic Hall of Fame - Class of 2017

Congratulations go out to this year’s Hall of Fame class. Inductees will be honored prior to the varsity boys’ basketball game on Sat. 1/14/17 (approximately 7:00 pm).



This year’s inductees are:



Jim Thompson – Jim was a standout athlete at Bloom-Carroll from 1960-1964, both in baseball and basketball. He was a 4 year letter winner in baseball, and earned 1st team all-league honors in 1964. On the hardwood, Jim earned 3 letters, and was voted first team all league twice. He finished with 823 career points. He was also a member of National Honor Society and was student body president as a senior. Jim continued his education and his basketball career at Capital University, playing all 4 years there. Jim returned to Bloom-Carroll as an educator from 1968-1980. During his career here, Jim also served as the varsity boys’ basketball coach for 11 seasons, and also coached varsity baseball for a year, assistant football for 4 years, and junior high track for a year. His basketball teams won league championships in 1970, 1971, and 1977. Jim finished his career at Pickerington Schools, retiring in 2003. He now spends his time volunteering to a multitude of local volunteer projects, mission trips, and Habitat for Humanity builds.



Sharon Ritchey – Sharon was a 4 sport star during her years at BCHS from 1973-77. Sharon played volleyball for 2 years and earned all league honors in 1977. During the winter, she took her talents to basketball where she also earned all league honors in both 1976 and 1977. Things did not slow down in the spring for Sharon, as she played softball for 4 years, earning all league honors in 1977, and also participating in track and field for 2 years, earning All league and all-Ohio honors in 1977 in the shotput. In the 76-77 year alone, she earned 1st team MSL honors in 4 different sports. After leaving BC, Sharon went on to earn a degree in marketing along with an MBA from Eastern Kentucky University, and then a 2nd MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Sharon’s professional career includes leadership positions at Citibank, GE Capital, The Hartford, and most recently at AXA. In 2013, she became the Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Operating Committee at AXA US, which is among the largest life insurance and retirement savings companies in the country. She is a frequent public speaker and champions the role of athletics toward instilling confidence and leadership skills in young women. She is a member of multiple boards of directors, including the LPGA foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that creates and supports programs to achieve their main objectives of scholarships, research, and education for women and girls in golf, specifically junior golfers.



Matt Hicks – Matt is a 1992 BC graduate and he excelled in multiple sports during his career here as well. Matt earned 3 letters in football and during those 3 years, the team had a 25-5 record, including the undefeated 1990 MSL championship squad. Matt earned 1st team MSL honors in 1991 and was special mention all district that year as well. As a senior, Matt was 2nd on the team in tackles and led the team in scoring with 6 touchdowns of his own. Matt also earned 4 varsity letters in wrestling. He was an MSL champion as a junior and senior. Matt was a 2 time sectional champion and a 2 time Central District All-Star. He qualified for the state tournament twice, culminating in a 6th place finish at the state meet as a senior, earning him 1st team All Ohio honors. Matt participated in track and field in the spring and earned 4 letters there as well. As a junior, he finished 2nd in the MSL in both the shotput and discus, which tied him for the MSL Field Events MVP. As a senior he was 3rd in the league in the discus, and was the MSL champion in the shotput. During his senior season, Matt set school records in the shotput and discus, and those records still stand today. Academically, Matt was president of the National Honor Society and was the 1992 class valedictorian. Matt continued his education and athletic career at Otterbein University in Westerville, where he earned 8 varsity letters between football and track and field, earning all-conference honors 9 times and graduating with honors. Matt earned his BA, magna cum laude, in business administration. He earned his MBA from Ashland University in 2001, and his Juris Doctor, again magna cum laude, from Capital University Law School in 2006. Matt currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Counsel at Federal Equipment Company in Cleveland, where he lives with his wife Emily and their 3 children, Gaby, Romy, and Lad.
